This story is about a couple coming to terms with being grown-ups. They are looking forward to meeting new neighbors but are instead greeted by a rowdy fraternity hell bent on throwing THE party. After trying to avoid the inevitable conflict, chaos ensues and puts the couple and the president of the frat at odds and into an all-out battle to destroy each other.
Was it funny? Yes. I was skeptical about Zac Efron coming out of his Disney past and into the adult movie world but we have yet to see anything with him that we didn’t like. Seth Rogen is funny as well but the role is pretty stereotypical for him. Drugs, language, inappropriate behavior are always included. I was hopeful that since he was cast as a father and what seemed to be the straight man that he would branch out more but alas, it was not as much as I had hoped. Rose Byrne (Xmen First Class) was pretty dang funny as the mom in the couple. Her Xmen CIA agent was very different so it was pretty great to see her playing something so different for me. I admit I never made it through Bridesmaids or Get Him To The Greek that she was also in so I could be way off on this being different for her. We overall liked the whole thing though.
The humor in the film is slapstick and absurd so of course we laughed our butts off (we are juvenile like that sometimes…all the time). The drug humor gets a little lost on me sometimes but it was funny regardless. The best part though was seeing the lengths to which the frat would go to get the “old people” back for daring to ask them to tone it down. I totally have ideas now. LOL
Do I have to say that this one is not kid friendly? It should go without saying that Seth Rogen = no kids allowed. Zac Efron isn’t singing with a basketball team either so nada there either. It’s a good one if you want to sit around and be entertained without being made to think. We all need that sometimes. J
We would recommend it as an effort-free laugh generator. Just accept that you have to see Seth Rogen naked (no frontal thank God!) That’s funny all on its own.
Rating: 3.25 kitties. It should be 4.20 though. Get it?? (I know…that was lame. LOL)
